Many people have heard of these amazing plants, but few understand how they really work. They are typically bog plants that evolved in very nutrient poor soils. This means they must have rainwater or distilled water, and should not be allowed to dry out. They also should not be fertilized, but can be fed fish flakes if you feel they’re not catching enough on their own. Plant them in sand and sphagnum moss, not soil.

Selecting a Carnivorous Plant
Some carnivorous plants are fully tropical and will grow indoors all year, including many sundews and Asian pitcher plants. Others require a seasonal dormancy to thrive long term, such as venus fly traps and American pitcher plants. If you’re a beginner, we highly recommend starting with a tropical variety.
